Eugenie Bouchard mocked Sam Querrey after the American’s intervention involving his son on the Nothing Major Podcast, where he, along with John Isner and Steve Johnson, were commenting on their children’s favourite tennis players.
It was precisely Isner who, in an Instagram clip, surprised everyone by speaking about his son’s unusual choice as his favourite tennis player. “Do you know who my oldest son's favorite tennis player is? This is classic,” said Isner, quickly receiving a response from Querrey.
“David Nalbandian?” said Querrey, receiving a negative answer from his fellow American. “Nicolas Mahut?” he added, making an implicit reference to the longest match in history, precisely played by Isner and Mahut back in Wimbledon 2010, lasting a total of 11 hours and 5 minutes, with Isner as the winner (6-4, 3-6, 6-7(3), 7-6(3), 70-68).
Querrey, who was on screen with his youngest son, Owen James Querrey, quickly asked the child—who will turn five next November. “Carlos Alcaraz” the child said without hesitation.
The former world No. 6 Isner returned to the topic he had raised, surprising everyone with his son’s favourite player: “He’s hit balls with Roger Federer. He’s watched Carlos Alcaraz from 10 feet away practice… His favorite tennis player is Reilly Opelka.”
The moment triggered laughter between Querrey and Johnson in a clip that was later shared on social media by the official Instagram accounts of the Nothing Major Podcast.
However, the laughter did not stop there. Shortly afterwards on social media, several players reacted to the moment shared online, including former Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard. “Sam stop pimping your son on the show for attention,” Bouchard wrote in the comments, while responses from other colleagues also appeared.
“Saw this one coming,” replied Tommy Paul, while Yulia Putintseva also joined in: “Mahut 🤣🔥” wrote the 32-year-old Kazakh player.

The best Nothing Major campaigns at Wimbledon

Isner had his best Wimbledon performance back in 2018, when he reached the semifinals, the only Grand Slam semifinal appearance during his career. On that occasion, the 9th seed defeated players such as Stefanos Tsitsipas and Milos Raonic to reach the semifinals, where he was eventually defeated in an epic match against Kevin Anderson (6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 4-6, 24-26)—the second-longest match in Wimbledon history at six hours and 36 minutes.
However, the longest match belongs precisely to Isner–Mahut, which after more than 11 hours ended in a victory for the American at 70-68 in the fifth set. Isner was later eliminated in the second round, clearly exhausted, winning only five games against Brands.

Querrey, for his part, also reached the semifinals one year earlier, producing the shock of the tournament by defeating the world No. 1 and defending champion Andy Murray. The 24th seed at the time defeated players such as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Kevin Anderson before eliminating Murray in five sets in the quarterfinals. However, his run ended in the semifinals against Marin Čilić.
Johnson, on his side, had his best campaign in 2016, reaching the fourth round, beating Chardy and Dimitrov along the way before being eliminated by Roger Federer.
In addition, as a regular member of the podcast, Jack Sock is also part of the group and reached the third round twice (2016, 2022). Although he never reached the second week in singles, he was a doubles champion on two occasions: in 2014 alongside Vasek Pospisil (victory over the Bryan brothers Bob and Mike), and again in 2018, this time with Mike Bryan himself (victory over Klaasen and Venus in the final).
