Swiss Indoors Basel: Ben Shelton set to face Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in tantalising tussle as final set

It will be perhaps one of the finals of the year tomorrow at Swiss Indoors Basel and real video game type tennis as Ben Shelton faces Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard for the title.
Two players really anchoring the future of the sport perhaps with Mpetshi Perricard having a breakout season like Shelton did last year albeit of course without the Grand Slam heroics.
The Frenchman beat Holger Rune serving 17 aces in the process in an epic 7-6(6), 6-4 upset with a similarly close match expected tomorrow against the American who is favourite for the title. In fact, it was very much a Next Gen feel or players just past that point as Arthur Fils lost to Shelton also in that tie.
After beginning the season outside of the top 200, Mpetshi Perricard has flown into the top 40 and will be set for a career high come what may. With Jack Draper also into the final in Vienna, it could be a youth dominated Sunday. In Basel, it was the first time an ATP Tour event featured the four semi-finalists born in the 2000's.
The Frenchman never faced a break point and won 87% of his first serve points. After an opening set without a break chance, the first 13 points of the tie-break went to the serve. Mpetshi Perricard snatched the tie-break and took advantage from there breaking to start set two as he cruised through the next five games.
While Shelton snapped Arthur FIls 6-3, 7-6(9) in a hard-fought 78 minute semi-final to halt his winning streak in ATP 500's to 13 matches. Shelton did not face a break point and he won 88% of points behind his first serve. This proved the key. The serve of course against an ace monster in Mpetshi Perricard will also prove to be big.
