The 2025 edition of the
Laver Cup is already shaping up to be one of the most entertaining events next season, as American
Taylor Fritz has been announced as a representative of Team World.
Conceived in 2017 by Roger Federer, the multinational event sees European ATP stars represent Team Europe whereas those not from the continent will fly the banner for Team World. Team Europe won the most recent edition, improving to 5-2 against Team World for the duration of the fan-favorite event.
Fritz makes return following impressive season
The American represented Team World during this year's edition, and has been on a tear during the 2024 season. Fritz was one of the most in-form players on tour this year, and rode his momentum to his maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open, where he fell to a red-hot Jannik Sinner.
Fritz would go on to play some of his best tennis at the year-ending ATP Finals. The 27-year old would reach the final of the elite eight-man event, but once again fall to Sinner. Nonetheless, Fritz would end the year at a career-high ranking of World No.4.
The California native is one of the first to be announced for the 2025 edition of the Laver Cup, which will take place in San Francisco. This could give him a hometown advantage, with Fritz hoping to lift the prestigious trophy alongside his Team World teammates.
