Information leaking out of Australia are indicating that Tennis Australia gave players wrong information regarding medical exemptions.
According to the Herald Sun in Australia, Tennis Australia told some of the world's best players including
Novak Djokovic how they could play at the
Australian Open despite the rules not being set in stone. According to a piece of information sheet obtained, it is shown that Tennis Australia e-mailed the rules for participation at the Australian Open to the ATP.
The information sheet was forwarded to the players and it included a two-step process about how players could play at the event without being vaccinated. The sheet included information that players who contracted the virus in the past six months could play with an exemption despite not having guarantees by the government of the country that that would be enough.
That clause is rumored to be the reason why Djokovic got his medical exemption which was then revoked when he landed in the country. The major issue is that the information that Tennis Australia sent to the ATP and players is wrong and according to the report they have been explicitly told by the government that it would not be enough for an exemption to enter the country without being vaccinated.
Another player has since had her exemption revoked as she too, like Djokovic, entered the country by being infected with the virus in the past six months. It's possible other players might suffer the same fate, as the government is checking all exemptions for similar breaches of rules.
