Veteran Spanish player
Roberto Bautista Agut believes his fellow
countryman
Carlos Alcaraz must become more cautious about his behaviour if he wants
to win more Grand Slams in his career. The 21-year-old, who is regarded as one
of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category
along with the likes of Italy’s Jannik Sinner, has already won four Grand Slam
titles in his young career.
Alcaraz, recently in an interview during the Netflix
documentary, explained an interesting incident before his first Wimbledon
triumph back in 2023 where he went to Ibiza to part just before the start of the
second Grand Slam of the year where he lifted the title after beating the
former world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the final in a five-set
thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
"I had a friend who had a few days off, going to Ibiza
with other friends," he said. "I ended up going and they know what
I'm going there to do. In Ibiza, I'm not going to lie, it's pretty much all
about partying and going out. I basically went there to reventar (literally,
'burst' in Spanish), I'm not sure if that's the best way to put it but I went
there to go out."
Veteran Spanish player Bautista Agut has been recently
quoted in a report by
Tennis 365, where he advised the youngster to become more
cautious if he wants to win more major titles in his career. The 35-year-old stated
that top-level tennis ‘demands a lot’, something he wants Alcaraz to
understand.
“I believe that top-level tennis demands a lot. I don’t
think Carlos will win Grand Slams by going to bed at seven in the morning,” he
said. “Tennis is very demanding, though everything seems beautiful now, he is
very young; he has to understand that to match the achievements of the top
three, he must play at a high level for fifteen years. I consider him
intelligent; he will surely gradually realise what it takes to reach that high
level and implement it.”
