A lot of people watched Federer play Koepfer and many were stunned by the effort Federer put forward at 39, an hour after midnight to win the match.
One of those people has been
Andy Murray who is currently in his native UK preparing for the Grass swing. Murray is set to return next week at the cinch Championships in Queen's club but he did not miss the opportunity to watch Federer create magic on the court.
Murray said on his official Twitter:
“I’m not bothered by the outcome of this match at all. Just seeing Federer at 39 off the back of 2 knee surgeries playing to an empty stadium at 12.30am getting fired up is inspirational to me. Do what you love.”
It was very lofty praise for Federer who really found another level to close out the match against Koepfer who arguably played the best match of his life. The circumstances were not easy as Murray noted. Empty stadium, early morning hours, on clay, after two knee surgeries.
Federer noticed the praise and he responded to Andy in kind words saying:
"Thank you Sir Andy. You gotta love it. See you on the grass.”
