Former world number one Spain’s
Rafael Nadal believes that
he is no way near to winning another Grand Slam.
The 37-year-old is still spending time on the sidelines because
of fitness concerns. It is because of this reason he ended up missing three out
of the four Grand Slams this year.
The only major event where Nadal participated in 2023 was
the Australian Open where he was knocked out after suffering a defeat to
America’s Mackenzie McDonald with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
Nadal recently appeared in a show where he stated that it is
very hard to imagine for him to win another Grand Slam after spending such a
long time on the sidelines.
“I want to be back on the court and compete,” he said. “But
I’m not expecting/hoping to come back and win Roland Garros and Australia. That
looks like very far away, even if not impossible."
Nadal is often termed as one of the greatest players in the
history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era.
He has won 22 Grand Slam titles in his career, second-most
in the history, only behind current world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
He was the first player to win more than 20 Grand Slam titles
in men’s tennis in the singles category.
His most successful
competition is the French Open where he has lifted the title 14 times which is
a record in the tournament’s history.
