The WTA Rankings have been updated today, Monday, September 18, with Aryna Sabalenka maintaining her lead as Barbora Krejcikova re-enters the top 10.
World No. 1 Sabalenka stands firm ahead of Iga Swiatek, who was usurped last week after 75 weeks at the top. The Polish player was unable to defend her title at the US Open, crashing out in her Round of 16 match against Jelena Ostapenko. Meanwhile, Sabalenka progressed through to the final, meaning she took over the top spot in the rankings.
This week, the top two places remain the same as both players take some time off to recover from the New York major.

Changes elsewhere in the top 10

However, there were some changes elsewhere in the top 10. Elena Rybakina dropped to No. 5 after losing points from the Zavarovalnica Sava Portoroz tournament, where she finished as runner-up a year ago. This meant that Jessica Pegula overtook her to move up to No. 4.
Meanwhile, Krejcikova moved up from No. 13 to No. 10 after winning the San Diego Open this week. The Czech player defeated Sofia Kenin in the final 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to take the title.
This meant that Caroline Garcia exited the top 10, moving to No. 11. The Frenchwoman has had a difficult time recently, losing her first match at the US Open against Yafan Wang, although she did make the quarter-finals in San Diego.
Krejcikova's rise means that there are now three Czech players in the WTA top 10, as she joins No. 8 Karolina Muchova and No. 6 Marketa Vondrousova. Their compatriot Petra Kvitova is not too far behind them at No. 14.
Elsewhere, Danielle Collins moved up 9 places to No. 34 and Emma Navarro soared 12 places up the rankings to No. 49. However, it was Kenin who made the monumental leap of 40 places to re-enter the top 60 after she reached the final of the WTA 500 event in San Diego, landing at No. 53. Ashlyn Krueger also made a huge jump of 50 places to enter the top 100 at No. 73.
