Australia’s tennis star Nick Kyrgios has expressed his desire to win a Grand Slam to ‘shut people up’. The 29-year-old, who is famous for being vocal, was once regarded as the most talented player coming from the country in men’s tennis in the singles category.

However, Kyrgios has suffered immensely because of fitness concerns, which kept him out of action for nearly two years. During that time, the former world number 13 underwent multiple procedures to ensure that one day, he would return to the court.

Kyrgios has been quoted in a report by Japan Times where he expressed his desire to win a Grand Slam to ‘shut people up’. "I am coming back because something is keeping me around the game," he said. "I have beaten pretty much every person that has been put in front of me, made a final of a Grand Slam, won a doubles title in a Grand Slam, won multiple titles and made money. But I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That'll be my deep motivation."

Kyrgios’ best performance in a major tournament came in 2022, when he finished as the runner-up at Wimbledon after losing to Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in the final with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. After that, the Canberra-born star also played in the quarterfinal of the US Open, where he lost to Russia’s Karen Khachanov in a five-set thriller with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3. That was the last major event where Kyrgios participated in the singles category. Overall, the 29-year-old has lifted a major title but in the doubles category, which was the Australian Open in 2022, where he, along with Thanasi Kokkinakis, defeated the pair of Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
