Jimmy Connors is a big fan of the coaching union that has developed and seen Boris Becker work with Holger Rune as the German takes his first coaching job in a number of years in a role many see as a match made in tennis heaven.

Rune ditched Patrick Mouratoglou after a long working relationship earlier this summer and Connors on Advantage Connors said that he can add that little bit extra to Rune's game and that experience of winning major titles and reaching the top of the sport.

"I kind of like the matchup. First of all, it's good to see Boris back in the game and happy that now he's gone through some struggles to see he's back and being where he likes to be which is around the tennis," he said on Advantage Connors.

"I think that's great and here's why, when Boris first burst onto the scene and won Wimbledon, his game, his approach, and the way he played was pretty exciting. He had groundstrokes, he had a huge serve. He wasn't afraid to leave his seat and go all out for a volley. I think what he can bring to his relationship is that."

"What it takes to just be that bit extra and to push yourself a bit more. Not that Rune is not but to have someone there who has been there done that and has won Wimbledon, US Open, and major titles around the world and to put your reputation and your game on the line like that is an important part of it. I think that gets left out a lot."

"That's why at one time a lot of players went for the older guys. They could bring that experience and suddenly transform it over to them."

"Boris has been my friend for years. I did TV with him for the BBC, I listened to what he talked about, how he broke down a match and what was necessary. I think he can transform that over to Rune and that's going to take him to another level."
