Coco Gauff heads into the WTA Finals without the disparaging aspects to her game that used to haunt her believes Martina Navratilova.
Gauff won the US Open last month after going on a streak of tournament wins including Washington and Cincinnati. This after she started to work with Brad Gilbert, renowned former coach of Andre Agassi with a new complexion to her WTA Finals this time.
Navratilova says that the different lies in the fact that she has now figured out how to win when producing under her top level and that the weaknesses which many have seen with double faulting and her serve in the past have been ironed out and aren't so glaring anymore.
She starts her campaign tomorrow in a group with Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova.
"She’s figured out how to win, even when she’s not playing her best tennis. I think she’s got clarity now with the game plan. And that gives you a lot of confidence, kind of takes you off the hook when things don’t go well you can get nervous and panic and say, ‘Oh my God, what do I do?’ said Navratilova as per WTA.
"But when you have a plan, you know whether it’s working or not. If it works, you stick with it and if it doesn’t, obviously you can change it. But that’s what that clarity gives you -- a lot of confidence. So then weaknesses are not so weak anymore, and you just get on with it. And that’s what happened at the Open. She knew what she had to do to win the match."
