With the Olympic Games set to take place in Paris next year, former-player-turned-analyst Alex Corretja hopes Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz will team up to represent Spain at the tennis doubles event.
Nadal has been out of action since the 2023 Australian Open, but will be making his return to the tour at the Brisbane International, which kicks off on December 31, 2023. The Spaniard has hinted the 2024 season could be his last year on tour, therefore it comes as no surprise that several people, Corretja included, would like to see him team up with compatriot Alcaraz at the Olympic Games.

"Both the facts that the Olympics being played at Roland Garros and that Rafa will enter the games thinking it is his last shot to add a medal for the country makes a important moment," Corretja said in an interview with Eurosport.
“If you add to the mix, that he could play with [Carlos] Alcaraz in doubles, that becomes explosive, that would be something attractive, that would really be a very unusual combination, but I think it would work out very well because the two are 'winners.' Although they do not know each other so well because they have coincided little in the circuit, I am convinced that the chemistry would be brutal.”
Although Nadal has to prove he can remain healthy till the Olympic Games, Corretja is of the opinion that the former World No.1 will relish the opportunity to win another Olympic gold medal, especially on the clay courts that have seen him win 14 of his 22 Grand Slam titles.
