Rafael Nadal is currently away from tennis as the Spaniard is working towards healing his injured foot in order to be ready for the 2022 season.

Nadal is back home in Mallorca where he is spending time with his family as well as overseeing the work of the Rafael Nadal Tennis Academy. The Spaniard hosted an event at the academy where he briefly touched upon his recovery and his tennis plans in general. He said:

"The clock is ticking, every year it's getting tougher. But I am still excited and I will keep fighting to achieve great things again."

It didn't sound that optimistic as Nadal seemed to understand that he won't have that much time remaining on the tennis tour. The Spaniard already saw his 2021 season completely derailed by a persistent foot injury that won't go away. Even so, Nadal seemed determined to fight for as long as he can and that should not be doubted.

He further clarified:

"I have some pain in my foot. It's been a complicated time for me on a personal and professional level. The recovery process will be tough and painful at times."

Whether Nadal will be able to recover in time for the Australian Open remains to be seen but it is widely expected that he will be ready for it. Only time will tell.
