Davis Cup success has started paying dividends as Finland
managed to sell as many as 7,000 tickets for their next tie against Portugal.
The Northern Europe country has had a great run in the 2023
Davis Cup where they were eventually knocked out in the semifinal after losing
to Australia with a score of 2-0.
As per a post posted on the official account of the Finland Tennis
Association on social media platform X—previously known as Twitter—they have
managed to sell as many as 7,000 tickets for their next tie against Portugal which
will be played in February 2024.
Finland was placed in Group D which consisted of the Netherlands,
USA and Croatia. They ended up finishing second behind only the Dutch side. In
the round of 16, the Finland side made a grand comeback after losing the first
match and defeated Canada with a score of 2-1.
In the first match, Milos Raonic defeated Patrick Kaukovalta
in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Otto Virtanen then defeated Gabriel
Diallo in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5 to level the tie.
In the all-important decider in the doubles category, Virtanen
and Harri Heliovaara defeated Alexis Galarneau and Vasek Pospisil in straight sets
with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
