Matteo Berrettini, also nicknamed as 'The Hammer' at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown defeated 'The Greek God', Stefanos Tsitsipas to become the champion of the UTS.
After showing that they are the best two players at the
Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTs) in the semifinal matches,
Matteo Berrettini and
Stefanos Tsitsipas were set for the final in Mouratoglou Tennis Academy. 'The Hammer' and 'The Greek God' both wanted to win the Lighting Bolt what is the trophy for the winner.
Despite losing during most of the first quarter, Berrettini used his special cards efficiently again and managed to come back. The young Italian timed his comeback perfectly. He has won the last rally right after the clock on the court showed 0 and won the first quarter 16-15.
In the second quarter, Tsitsipas was leading since the early minutes again. 'The Greek God' soon led 10-4 in the quarter and it seemed that he would level the score of the match. However, Berrettini used his cards winners count x3 and steal serve efficiently. The Italian won 6 points in a row and made it 10-10 in the second quarter. That was the moment when Apostolos Tsitsipas, father and coach of Tsitsipas decided to take the coaching timeout. He advised Stefanos to use his winners count x3 card but even that didn't help to stop the Italian 'Hammer'. Berrettini continued in his dominant performance and won the 2nd quarter 15-12.
In an interview after the second quarter, Tsitsipas was asked if it is possible to turn the match around. He replied: 'That would be a miracle." 'The Greek God' changed his racquet for the third quarter and it seemed that even that didn't help to stop Berrettini. The Italian soon led 4-0 in the third quarter and it seemed impossible for Tsitsipas to turn the match around. However, this time the Greek used his cards efficiently and managed to win the third quarter 14-12.
Also Vincenzo Santopadre, the coach of
Matteo Berrettini asked for a coaching timeout. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, the Italian was losing already 2-6 and his coach advised him to use his winners count x3 card. This didn't help as 'The Hammer' lost both points and soon found himself losing already 2-12. Despite his best efforts, the Italian didn't come back and so Tsitsipas won the fourth quarter 15-8.
The final had all it should have and was decided in the sudden death. The first player to win two points in a row will become the champion of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown. Tsitsipas won in all 4 matches that reached sudden death at the tournament, and so he was a slight favorite.
He started the sudden death with an ace and was only one point away from winning it all. Matteo Berrettini didn't give up, managed to win the following rally and he also had one championship point in this match. The Italian lost the following point but got one more championship point which he converted to become the champion of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown.
