America’s tennis star Taylor Fritz believes that it is his ‘time’ after cementing his place in the semifinal of the US Open 2024. The 26-year-old produced arguably one of the biggest results of his career as he defeated the current world number four, Germany’s Alexander Zverev, in the quarterfinal of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year with a score of 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 on Tuesday.
Talking after the match, Fritz sounded upbeat after cementing his spot in the semifinal of a Grand Slam for the first-time ever and stated that he believes it is his time to go all the way and secure the major title of his career. The California-born star also highlighted that he very understands that the ‘job is not done yet’.
"I’ve had a lot of looks at Grand Slam quarter-finals over the past couple of years, and today just felt different," said Fritz. "I really felt like it was my time to take it a step further. It's cool I'm in the semis. But I very much have the mindset of 'the job's not done," Fritz said. "A question I got asked pretty much every time I lost in my quarter-finals was, 'What's it going to take to go further?' The answer I gave was always: Just keep putting myself in these situations, and I'll become more comfortable in these situations and get better. That's definitely what happened now. The quarter-finals didn't feel like, I don't know, this big thing to me like it has been, I guess, in the past.”
That result sets up an all-American semifinal between Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. The 26-year-old cemented his place in the last-four after his opponent, Grigor Dimitrov, was forced to withdraw from the contest. The final score of the match was 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 4-1. It will also mean that for the first time since 2006, an American player will be playing in the US Open's final. The last player to do that was Andy Roddick in 2006, who lost to Switzerland’s Roger Federer with a score of 6–2, 4–6, 7–5, 6–1.
