Spain’s young sensation
Carlos Alcaraz
has suffered some disappointing results in the recent past.
While every disappointing result
does not have a pattern or connection with another. But in the case of the 20-year-old,
there is an interesting pattern.
Three out of his recent four
defeats came from players who are associated with a fashion brand Lacoste.
Those players are Bulgaria’s Grigor
Dimitrov, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz’s recent defeat came in the
round of 16 of the Shanghai Masters to Dimitrov with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
The world number two is often
regarded as the best young male player currently player in the circuit.
He becomes the talk of the town
after defeating the current world number one Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon
in a five-set thrilling contest with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
It was Alcaraz’s second Grand Slam
title as he also won the US Open last year after defeating Norway’s Casper Ruud
in the final with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3.
Other
than that, he also played in the semifinal of the French Open and US Open this
year where he lost to Djokovic and Medvedev, respectively.
