Russia’s tennis star
Andrey Rublev
is getting closer to securing a spot in the ATP Finals.
The last major tournament of the ATP
calendar will be played next month where the top eight players will participate to
secure the ultimate prize.
Rublev is currently taking part in
the
Shanghai Masters where some of the best players are participating in order
to strengthen their chances of playing in the mega-event.
The good news for the 25-year-old is
that all of his competitors who were in the running to secure the final spot of the ATP Finals are already out of the Shanghai Masters and therefore, he is getting
closer to achieving the ultimate objective.
Rublev has already booked his place
in the quarterfinal of the competition after beating America’s Tommy Paul in straight
sets with a score of 7-5, 7-5.
He is now set to face off Ugo Humbert
of France in the last-eight of the tournament on Thursday.
Rublev had a decent time while
playing at the highest level this year where he played in the quarterfinal of
the three out of the four Grand Slams.
The only major competition where
the Moscow-born failed to qualify for the fourth round or beyond was the French
Open where he lost to Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in a five-set thriller with a
score of 5-7, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
