Former World No.2 Paula Badosa has never shied away from acknowledging the importance of family in her life, and recently opened up about her strong relationship with her younger sister, Jana.
The Spaniard spoke about her maternal relationship with her 15-year old sister, whom Badosa has committed to helping make Jana's dreams come true.
Badosa admits to playing the role of second mom to Jana
"My younger sister, she’s 15 years old," she said on an episode of the WTA series My Journey: Paula Badosa. "Her name is Jana. We have a 10 year difference so I always felt that, of course, I’m her older sister but as I say, at the same time, I always felt like I had to like, be her second mom.
"I protect her so much, especially the role I’m playing right now with her right now it’s financially, I’m helping her. Her dream was always to come her to the US, to study, to learn English. Her maturity is growing so fast thanks to that, so I’m very proud of her."
Furthermore, the former Indian Wells champion stated she would do everything to ensure Jana achieves her dreams.
"She’s the most important person in my life," she added. "So I would, she knows that I would do anything for her and I just want her to have an opportunity to do whatever she wants or her dream. I had my opportunity to make my dream come true, so I just want that for her."
Growing up in a household where soccer was king, my earliest memories are filled with chants from packed stadiums and the rhythm of a ball being passed across neighborhood streets. But somewhere along the way, the quiet elegance and raw emotion of tennis pulled me in. What began as a curiosity became a lifelong passion; not just for the sport itself, but for the stories it tells: of grit, of heartbreak, of improbable comebacks and human resilience.
As a tennis writer, I bring the observational lens of someone who didn’t grow up in the sport, but fell in love with it as an outsider; a perspective that lets me see both its technical beauty and its emotional depth. Over the years working with TennisUpToDate, I’ve had the privilege of reaching more than 3.5 million readers worldwide, with one of my features ranking among the site’s top three articles.
With a background in storytelling and a creative mind always searching for meaning beyond the scoreboard, I aim to craft narratives that go deeper than results and rankings. Whether it’s a rising star breaking through or a veteran fighting off Father Time, I try to capture the heartbeat behind the headlines.
