16-year-old Russian talent
Mirra Andreeva continues to make giant strides on the WTA circuit and has managed to advance at the
Hong Kong Open after defeating Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in two sets (6-4/6-3).
This match was an interesting one on paper with Andreeva liking posts surrounding Putin and Ukraine which Yastremska tried to get her sanctioned for after Lausanne unsuccessfully. There was no handshake as expected even without the issues between the pair.
Andreeva was much more solid with her first serves, with 85% of first serves winning 79% of the points. She was also very incisive with her opponent's second serve, winning 59% of Yastremska's second serves. She got a total of 4 breaks during the match with only one of her rivals.
It must be said that the Ukrainian was the defending champion of the WTA 250 tournament, so this year she will not be able to repeat her triumph. Andreeva with this victory becomes one of the great favorites to win the Hong Kong Open.
What "must be said" is that WTA is pretending they don't know M. Andreeva is a Putin sympathizer.
Hell, they won't even take a meeting about it.
As I wrote previously, same goes for the National Hockey League and Ovechkin (Washington Capitals) who openly campaigned for Comrade Putin on his website. But all is forgiven when you can score goals and win Cups and Tourneys = MONEY.
Nothing to see here, eh WTA??
