Amanda Anisimova has revealed that she was injured during training while taking a mental health break away from the demands of the
WTA Tour.
The 22-year-old has already experienced a lot of success in the sport - she has two WTA titles to her name, has reached the semi-finals of the 2019 French Open, and made it to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2022. As a result, she has a career-high ranking of World No. 21.
However, the American has not competed since the Madrid Open in April of this year, when she lost in the first round against Arantxa Rus. Shortly after this, Anisimova announced on her Instagram that she was taking an indefinite mental health break.
"Hey guys. I thought I’d make a post explaining what’s been going on and my plans. I’ve really been struggling with my mental health and burnout since the summer of 2022.
"It’s become unbearable being at tennis tournaments. At this point my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I’ve worked as hard as I could to push through it. I will miss being out there, and I appreciate all the continuous support," she wrote at the time.
Anisimova injured while training
Since then, Anisimova has shared updates on her return to training, as she also started studies at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Florida. Over the last month, she has shared several videos of her back on the courts, but now it looks as though she will have to take some more time away from the sport.
"I got injured training last week so back to calm Monday mornings", she wrote on her Instagram story, yesterday, Monday, October 9, accompanied by a picture of her painting.
It is unclear what type of injury she has sustained or how long it will keep her off the court, but Anisimova did not appear too downcast about it on social media, which is hopefully good news.
