While surprisingly Novak Djokovic will play at Indian Wells this year as well as a malaise of big names, many won't be involved starting on Wednesday March 4.
15 players have already withdrawn from the tournament across both ATP and WTA from the tournament known as Tennis Paradise taking place in the Californian desert and is one of the most prestigious tournaments outside of the Grand Slams.
Taking place between 4-15 March, 2026, let's run through who won't play in both draws and why starting with WTA names with Lois Boisson's injury hell continuing.
The Frenchwoman won a WTA title last year and sits at World No.37 but that is very likely to drop as she has to defend a French Open semi-final this year and has barely played since.
She withdrew from the Australian Open in January in a bid to try and be 100% for the rest of the season but she did not return in the Middle East and will not play at least in California either. She beat Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva last year at the French Open before losing to eventual champion Coco Gauff. She also won in Hamburg.
But that seems to be a world away with the talented 22-year-old replaced by Oksana Selekhmeteva in the main draw. Elisabetta Cocciaretto is a victim of circumstance. She had to withdraw from Dubai due to a right thigh injury after playing six matches losing to Jelena Ostapenko in the Quarter-Finals of Doha.

Barbora Krejcikova continues to suffer.
That same injury keeps her out of Indian Wells as Camila Osorio replaces her. Barbora Krejcikova continues to have issues, she suffered a recurrence of her crippling knee injury in Australia and isn't back. Daria Kasatkina suffered physically in Dubai and continues to have issues. She is also out.
While Veronika Kudermetova is perhaps least surprising. She is out for sometime with surgery confirmed recently. No timeline is confirmed for her return. Yafan Wang who also used a protected ranking is also out. Zhang Shuai, the popular Zeynep Sonmez, Rebecca Sramkova and Ella Seidel take advantage.

But what about the men's tournament. Holger Rune is currently in Doha in his rehabilitation albeit perhaps doesn't want to be there given the current goings on in the Middle East. But he won't play likely until Autumn.
He has been replaced by Quentin Halys. Tallon Griekspoor also confirmed recently that he cannot play for the rest of March as his great run at Dubai came with a price. Unlike Medvedev, he didn't struggle getting out of the country it seems but he is out for at least a month.
Jaume Munar, Tomas Machac, Lorenzo Sonego, Eliot Spizzirri, Alexandre Muller, Filip Misolic and Juncheng Shang are also out. Spizzirri who had a great Australian Open has been sidelined with an elbow injury. While Munar announced in February that he will be out for a while due to a right arm injury.
Misolic has not recovered either pulling up in a challenger. This has given routes for the likes of Jan-Lennard Struff, Alexander Shevchenko among others into the main draw. The draw will take place later this evening.
