The unruly decision of Jack Draper: Disobeying the team but honoring the country

Britain’s young tennis star Jack Draper has revealed that he went against the wishes of him team and played in the Davis Cup. The 22-year-old is already regarded as one of the most talented young players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category. He is left-hander which gives him an added bonus as well.
Draper recently participated in the Davis Cup, where he represented Great Britain in the tie against Argentina. His presence, however, was not beneficial for the side as they lost with a score of 2-1. The Sutton-born star also to Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-5. Talking after the match, Draper revealed that he played in the competition against the wishes of his teammates. The world number 20 also highlighted that his decision to play in the competition was because he knows the value of representing the country at the highest level.
“Rightly so, my team want what’s best for me, my body and mind,” he said. “They’re the closest people to me, they want me to be healthy, especially considering my history. But I know what it’s like to play for my country, to be a part of the team, how good the feeling is to represent GB and walk out in front of a home crowd. I felt like, being British number one and in my position, it was the right decision for me to get myself up here and be part of the team.”
Draper came into the competition on the back of an outstanding outing in the recently concluded US Open. The young tennis star’s journey in the mega-event came to an end in the semifinals stage, where he lost to the current world number one Italy’s Jannik Sinner in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 7-6, 6-2.
