Dominic Thiem defeated Roberto Bautista in the stunning three-set semifinal match at the Thiem's 7 in Kitzbuhel to secure the final.
After fans in Kitzbuhel could see the 'Austrian Young Guns' battle on the court in Fast 4 tennis,
Dominic Thiem and
Roberto Bautista arrived for their semifinal match of
Thiem's 7.
After the first set, Thiem probably wished that they would also play the Fast 4 tennis. The Austrian led 4-1 in the first set (what would guarantee him a set victory in Fast 4) and had 2 breaks. However, the Spaniard managed to come back and force the tie-break. There, he prevailed to win it 7-5 and take the first set.
In the second set, Thiem started to slowly find his rhythm again. World no. 3 had 2 breakpoints in the 4th game but he failed to convert them. Then again, he needed to keep the composure on his service game. And Thiem succeeded in doing so. He lost only 2 more points on his service till the end of the set. He also converted 2 out of the 3 following breakpoints he had to win the set 6-2 and force the third decisive set.
The match was a great spectacle also in the third set. Both players kept delivering their A-game and fans in Kitzbuhel were on the edge of their seats after each rally. Thiem seemed to be unstoppable in the third set. He got an early break and a quick 4-1 lead.
Unlike the first set, this time he didn't lose the lead. 'Domi' made no more mistakes on his service game. He was almost flawless on his service now and won the set 6-2 to become the first finalist at Thiem's 7.
