Dominic Thiem and Vasek Pospisil booked a spot in the 3rd round of the US Open following victories over Nagal and Raonic.

Dominic Thiem is a man on a mission and he proved as much in his match against Nagal. The Indian is an up and coming player who is slowly finding his footing in the tennis world. Thiem's victory over him today was in straight sets but it was far from an easy one. Thiem started the match off better breaking his opponent immidietly but the Indian eventually fought back. He did surrender his serve at a crucial time late in the set to give Thiem the 6-3 victory.
The 2nd set featured similar things as both players continued to play rather well but Thiem was the better player. Nagal tried and fought hard but he was simply overmatched. Thiem dosed his play carefully raising his level when he needed to. The 2nd set was won 6-3 and Thiem looked set for the next round. The final set was the easiest on as the Austrian was determined to end it quickly. Nagal offered some resistance early but as the set progressed so did his energy level drop. Dominic won the last set with 6-2 to advance to the 3rd round of the US Open.
Milos Raonic entered this year's US Open as a dark horse candidate to win it all and his form last week shows why. Today's match was a tough one for Milos as he played against a countrymen whom he knows very well. It showed in the match as both player's had prepared gameplans targeting each others weaknesses. As was expected the match was highlighted by the stellar serving of both players.
As is the case with matches like that we ended up in a tiebreak which was won by Milos. The 2nd set was a masterpiece by Pospisil who couldn't have played it any better. We were tied entering the 3rd set which was a war of attrition. It ended in a tiebreak where surprisingly it was Pospisil who was more composed. The last set was when Raonic really struggled. His movement was off, his serves were off and Pospisil snatched this opportunity to win the final set with 6-3.
