It's been a few weeks since
Nick Kyrgios was in the news so in order to rectify that
Dominic Thiem gave his opinion on the Austrian.
When Dominic Thiem was asked about Nick Kyrgios many expected harsh words to come from the Austrian as Nick is an acquired taste, to say the least, but the Austrian gave a very honest response. He said:
"He is distinctive, you cannot replace him, he is totally unique! Tennis should be happy to have such a person. This sport hasn't seen anyone like him before and probably never will. People either hate him or they love him. Deep in his soul, he is a very nice person. Some years ago we discovered the Acapulco nightlife together, that was awesome!
So there is a lot to unpack here but one thing is for sure Thiem spoke honestly. Kyrgios is a very unique player especially personality-wise. Tennis as a rather conservative sport doesn't have many controversial figures which tends to make the sport dull to some. Someone outspoken as Kyrgios usually garners two sentiments as Dominic noted, hatred or love. It's a shame because he is a very caring and nice person which shines through more than once but usually gets overlooked.
As to the Acapulco thing well Kyrgios responded to Thiem by thanking him for the kind words and in regards to Acapulco he simply said:
"That night in Mexico was naughty" ending with two laughing emojis.
