The disqualification of Miyu Kato from Roland Garros (French Open) has been a hot topic these days due to the way it happened and PTPA's
Vasek Pospisil shared his thoughts on her.
Miyu Kato send a ball flying towards a ball girl unintentionally and it ended up hitting her. Due to that she and her doubles partner Sutjiadi were disqualified from the doubles with the Japanese player needing to forfeit all of her prize money earned at the event. For a player who hasn't had a huge break before this year, it meant a pretty big hit on the finances.
A lot of players denounced her disqualification as too harsh because there was no intent and the ballgirl was only hit because she wasn't turned towards the ball when it was coming to her. It was simply an accident and Pospil doesn't think she should have been forced to forfeit her prize money. It's the rule but it's not one the PTPA wants to see enforced.
Horrible Decision
Reacting on the statement from the PTPA on the situation, Pospisil added:
"Horrible decision by Roland Garros officials. Miyu Kato should at the very least get her prize money and points returned; and that still won’t make it right. This is theft."
He's not the only one that shared this kind of view as former player and tennis legend Martina Navratilova also called the whole situation a messs, especially the behaviour that Sara Sorribes Tormo and Marie Bouzkova showed during that whole ordeal. She was stunned they were pushing for a default feeling it was a cheap way to want to win such a match.
A fan said that it's the same thing that happened to Djokovic which Navratilova shut down pretty quickly. She didn' feel like it was a similar situation. Djokovic of course is the co-founder of the PTPA.
