America’s young tennis sensation
Ben Shelton has won a lot of fans after his impressive performance in the
Shanghai Masters.
The 21-year-old is currently
playing in the ATP 1000 event where he booked his place in the last-eight after
getting the better of one of the tournament favorites world number four Italy’s
Jannik Sinner with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.
The win was a special one considering
that Shelton started slowly and lost the first set against an in-form Sinner but
somehow still managed to continue his journey in the competition.
After that result, Shelton
received a lot of love from tennis fans on the social media platform X — previously
known as Twitter.
The Atlanta-born is often regarded
as one of the most highly-rated young players currently playing in the circuit,
alongside the current world number two Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner.
Shelton lived up to the hype on
his home soil in the recently concluded US Open where he was the only American
to reach the semifinal.
However, his journey finally came
to an end after he lost to the current world number one Serbia’s legendary
tennis star Novak Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 7-6.
