Winning the title in Houston this weekend must have been a dream for
Frances Tiafoe, but the tennis star was in for an even bigger treat as he was surprised by his girlfriend
Ayan Broomfield during the final.
Tiafoe defeated Tomas Etcheverry in a close 7-6(1) 7-6(6) match, claiming the title without dropping a set. This would be the American's second career ATP title, and the victory would see him climb four spots to a career-high ranking of World No.11.
During his winner's speech, Tiafoe expressed his gratitude to his team and the fans. The 25-year old then turned his attention to his girlfriend, whom he acknowledged before stating he had no idea she was in attendance.
"I also want to thank my team, my girlfriend Ayan who I see in the crowd at 1-0," he said. "I was like, 'I didn't even know you were in Houston, I thought you were in LA."
Broomfield would later respond on a social media clip of Tiafoe's speech, saying it was important for her to be there and support him.
"Had to show up for him," she tweeted.
