Tiafoe to face Fritz in Tokyo Final

It will be an all-American clash in Tokyo as Frances Tiafoe will take on compatriot Taylor Fritz in the Japan Open final.

Tiafoe played the first semi-final earlier today and he was able to battle past Kwon in three sets. The American did not play as well as he could but it was a very typical Tiafoe performance where he largely shined but also had moments as if he never played tennis.

The first went to him comfortably 6-2 but he fell apart completely in the second set dropping it 0-6. The final set was a very exciting one as Kwon looked better early but Tiafoe took a double break 5-2 lead. The American wasted the first chance to serve out the match but he held stern in the second one booking the final.

In the second semi-final, we saw Taylor Fritz overcome his Shapovalov demons. The American had only one victory against Shapovalov so far but today he was able to get another one. It was close though with Shapovalo wasting an early break point in the opening set. From there Fritz largely dominated and took it 6-3.

The second set was a close one as Shapovalov once again wasted some early chances with Fritz getting the first break. The American squandered it in the next game and it proved costly when he dropped the tiebreak 5-7. Still, he was able to rally in the final set taking it 6-3 and setting up the all-American clash in the final.
