Rafael Nadal has been away from the ATP Tour since competing at the Citi Open Washington in August, but his uncle and ex-coach
Toni Nadal believes the Spaniard will be back in action by next year's
Australian Open.
Nadal initially took some time off between the French Open and Washington to recover from injuries, missing Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics. After a brief appearance at Washington, Nadal revealed that he had a problem with his foot that required further treatment. The 20-time Grand Slam champion announced he would be cutting his season short, with hopes of returning next year.
In an interview with Antena 2 Deportes, Toni Nadal stated that his nephew was working hard to recover and kick off the 2022 season in Australia.
"Rafa plans to be back in Australia," revealed Toni Nadal. "Things are improving. I am convinced he will do well. He wants to have a great 2022 season. He will give it all."
Despite his limited schedule this season, Nadal has won two ATP titles at Barcelona and Rome, and sits at World No.6 in the ATP Rankings.
