Jannik Sinner scored his 2nd win over Carlos Alcaraz this year to win the 2022 Umag trophy and he was very glad about it.
Sinner did not have a spectacular year so far but he was able to play a couple of strong events nonetheless. One was Monte-Carlos, the other was Wimbledon and now he's got a trophy to his name as well. Speaking after the match. Sinner was very happy with the result:
“I am obviously very happy,” said Sinner after the match. “I have [had] a tough year until now, I had some unfortunate moments, but we worked every time to play better, to be a better player, to be a better person. So, I’m very happy to be finally lifting a trophy this year, but I know that I still have a lot of things to improve… It’s all about the process.”
The crucial moment in the match was when Alcaraz fended off six break points at the start of the 2nd set to give himself a chance to stay in the match. He agreed:
“That was a crucial point [of the match]. I knew I had to stay there. He made some unforced errors, and I was very happy that I won this game. Then I returned well and raised my level a little bit, and I think I found a solution then.”
