Amanda Anisimova advances to Washington round two

Amanda Anisimova started off her Washington journey with a solid win over compatriot Krueger 6-2 7-6(5) to move on to round two.

Anisimova did not play since Wimbledon and the American is expected to have a very strong showing on the hard courts because she showed a very high level on the surface earlier this year in Australia. It started off well in Washington with a solid win over compatriot Krueger. Anisimova dropped her serve in the first game but quickly rallied to jump out to a lead.

She held that lead and added another break later on to win the opening set 6-2. Krueger really struggled with her serve and she gave too many chances to Anisimova who was clinical on the 2nd serve. We saw a much more exciting 2nd set where Anisimova had to work really hard to finish off the match.

It opened decently for both as neither faced too many issues although Krueger did have to save an early break point. The younger American was the first one to break taking a 5-3 lead. When she served for the 2nd set, Anisimova broke her to stay in the set. We went into a tiebreak and it was a good one.

Both had the ir chances but Anisimova was a tiny bit calmer and it worked in her favour. She finished it off with 7-4.
