35-year-old
Fabio Fognini understands that his retirement is getting closer and his goal is just to try and enjoy it as much as possible.
This year hasn't been the best for Fognini in terms of results as his play suffered due to a lot of inconsistencies. It's something Fognini is aware signals the end of a career that was pretty great overall with the Italian content about it as well.
He spoke about it in a recent interview:
"With COVID-19 and injuries, this has been the tougher period of my career. Because after all the victories, the bad matches, the good matches, the trophies that I won, I’m more at the end of my career than before.”
For Foginini the end is not imminent but his goal is simply to enjoy the journey while it lasts because it's not going to last forever:
“My biggest dream is now to try and enjoy as before, running without pain, fighting to the end — and then decide when it’s time for the family. I know it’s going to be difficult, but let’s see. Let’s see. I’m 35 and, looking back, I have to say this is a great milestone achievement for me. For sure, I am happy.”
