The 7th day of the BNP Paribas Open is now over with Stefanos Tsitsipa and
Ons Jabeur the final winners of the day.
Both of these players stepped out fairly late onto the courts but both of them were able to produce great wins to move on at the event. Stefanos Tsitsipas faced a tricky proposition in Fabio Fognini with the Italian playing some good tennis early in the match as well. Catching Tsitsipas off guard with some precise shot-making Fognini was able to win the first set with 6-2.
Tsitsipas coughed throughout the match and post-match he struggled to speak noting that he has had a cold over the past few days. With that in mind, the comeback he was able to produce is even more impressive but Fognini would not agree. The Italian complained to the umpire that Tsitsipas was receiving illegal coaching but it did not change anything. The Greek won the match and the pair exchanged a few words on the net but that was it.
Joining him in the next round will be Ons Jabeur who continued her brilliant run of form with another decisive win. Her opponent was qualifier Anna Kalinskaya who was playing her best ever but she was no match for Jabeur who closed it out fairly quickly with 6-2 6-2. The Tunisian player scored the 47th win on the year coming a step closer to the WTA Finals in Guadalajara.
The win also means that she will break into the top 10 for the first time after this event. Impressive and deserving.
