The partnership of
Coco Gauff and
Leylah Fernandez at least for now is over in the doubles after a successful stint at BNP Paribas Open
Indian Wells.
Gauff and Fernandez who admitted post match in their second round that it was a late decision to team in the first place fell in the Quarter-Finals to Su-Wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens 5-7, 4-6 with the second seeds proving too strong in the end.
They will now face #3 seeds Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama next for a spot in the final after winning in just under an hour and a half.
It was a closely fought first set with Hsieh and Mertens only just pinching it by holding serve after a late break 40-0 go 6-5 ahead in a set which before that had seen a solitary break a piece.
But while this was the case in the opening set, it was a theme in the second with Gauff and Fernandez losing serve to allow Hsieh and Mertens to go 4-3 up only for them to exchange breaks.
Again though, it was the second seeds that held a slim advantage going 5-4 up and serving it out from there only needing one match point to down the teenage duo who's combined age is the same as Hsieh.
