Tsitsipas, Isner, Zverev and Berrettini all through at the Shanghai Masters

Zverev had to dig deep to beat Jeremy Chardy with 7-6 (13) and 7-6 (3). The fifth seed saved three set points to finally win after one hour and 47 minutes. Zverev now plays Andrey Rublev who won with 6-2 6-0 from John Millman (last weeks runner-up in the Japan Open).

Matteo Berrettini, who is in a serious battle with Zverev and Goffin for a seat at the 2019 ATP Race to London, also kept pace and won with twice 6-3 from Christian Garin. David Goffin finally won from Kukushin who retired in set 2.

Stefano Tsitsipas also needed two tie-breaks to beat the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6(3), 7-6(3). In the next round he will challenge Hubert Hurkacz.

"I knew it's going to be tough, and it was very tough," said Tsitsipas. "I think, mostly, the concentration that I have put and the work that I have put into that match, I still felt like I had to put a lot in order to get that outcome at the end."
