Germany’s
Alexander Zverev has refused to give details about
where the
ATP Finals will be organised in 2025. The mega-event, which is the
last in the men’s tennis calendar, is currently being organised in Turin, Italy
where top eight players are participating to showcase their talent and secure
the ultimate prize.
The city of Turin was awarded the hosting rights for the
events till 2025 and therefore, a meeting took place where the future of the competition
was decided. Zverev, who was present in the meeting as a part of the players
counsel, spoke to the media but refused to give details about where the
competition’s next edition will be played.
“I know what is going to happen, so... I'm not going to tell
you,” he said when asked by the reports after the next venue of the competition.
“I'm not going to be the source that you find out. I know what's going to
happen from 2026 onwards. I know what's going to happen. I'm not going to tell
you more. You're not going to get it from me. Not this time.”
Some media reports suggest that the competition is likely to
be moved to Milan next year to accommodate more fans but there has been no confirmation
about it. The tournament is considered one of the premier competitions in men’s
tennis, as only top players participate. This year, a new champion will be in place
as the defending champion—Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic — withdrew
from the competition because of fitness concerns. Only two of the eight players
currently participating in the competition have lifted the title. Zverev did
this in 2018 and 2021, whereas Russia’s Daniil Medvedev achieved the milestone
in 2020. This year, in the Ilie Nastase Group, world number one Jannik Sinner
is placed with 2024 US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz, Medvedev and Australia’s
Alex de Minaur. In the John Newcombe Group, Zverev is placed alongside four-time
Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz, Norway’s Casper Ruud and Russia’s Andrey Rublev.
