After the news released earlier today regarding Novak Djokovic and the World No.1 getting a medical exemption to play at the Australian Open, the same can't be said for Tennys Sandgren.
Sandgren is a former two-time Quarter-Finalist in Australia but has decided not to travel due to the requirement to be vaccinated to play.
Prominent tennis journalist, Ben Rothenberg reported the news and said he spoke to the American who said he didn't try to apply for a medical exemption due to not meeting any criteria.
This was backed up by Tommy Paul tagging him in a Tennis TV Instagram post about Djokovic asking if he was coming too and Sandgren replied saying 'not quite the same pull'.

Have also just seen this from Sandgren in the comments of Tennis TV’s Instagram announcement…

More #AusOpen news: Two-time quarterfinalist Tennys Sandgren (2018, 2020) is pulling out of the #AusOpen because of the vaccination requirement here. Sandgren did not try to apply for any medical exemption, he told me, because he did not meet any of the criteria listed for one.
