Nick
Kyrgios has teamed up with Logan Paul and is currently in search of teammates
for the upcoming 2024 Pokemon UNITE Championship Series, a prominent esports
event.
Launched in
2021, Pokémon UNITE is a free-to-play cross-platform game that delivers
thrilling 5v5 battles, where players take control of their favourite Pokémon
and utilise their skills to score points.
The 2024
Pokémon UNITE Championship Series will be held in Honolulu, Hawai'i. This
championship will consist of regional qualifiers, followed by a grand final
where the most outstanding teams will compete for a share of the $1 million
prize pool.
The
American influencer has been dedicated to collecting and selling rare Pokémon
cards over the years, while the Australian tennis player has repeatedly
expressed his love for Pokémon, sporting tattoos of Pokémon characters all over
his body.
These two
public figures first crossed paths in February 2023 when Kyrgios was a guest on
Paul's Impaulsive podcast. It was during this encounter that the former
Wimbledon finalist introduced Paul to the world of Pokémon.
Recently,
Logan Paul announced on social media that he and Kyrgios will be teammates
after a year of playing together. They are now seeking two companions to form a
team and compete in the Pokemon UNITE tournament:
"One
year ago,
Nick Kyrgios came on my podcast and told me about a Nintendo Switch
game called "Pokemon Unite." Given my obsession with Pokemon, I
finally started playing & now I’m addicted," Logan Paul wrote on X
(formerly Twitter).
"Nick
& I want to compete in the Championship Tournament but we don’t have a
team… anyone looking for two strong teammates OR want to form an eSports team
with us?" Paul added.
Despite
Kyrgios being sidelined due to injury, he hasn't put aside other ventures. The
former world No. 13 has been featured in television broadcasts for the Aussie
Open and the ATP Finals, staying connected to public life. Kyrgios
responded to his friend Paul's post:
Let’s go!!!
This gonna be crazy! @LoganPaul man of many talents," Nick Kyrgios shared.
