The
French Open has been plunged into chaos with
Roland Garros again having major rain delays and most of the action has been cancelled for today.
There will be no more play on the outside courts and with many of the matches already completed, it will be a fairly quiet day. Only nine matches will be completed on Wednesday 29 May with Ons Jabeur, Carlos Alcaraz, Sofia Kenin and Stefanos Tsitsipas already through. So only those still to be played on the main Show Courts will be completed.
This will mean that Thursday and Friday will be packed out in order to catch up. The only matches still to be played will be the current Iga Swiatek v Naomi Osaka match which is on Court Philippe-Chatrier, Andrey Rublev who is about to close in on two sets up over Pedro Martinez.
As well as Stan Wawrinka facing Pavel Kotov and Jannik Sinner v Richard Gasquet in the Night Session with Coco Gauff v Tamara Zidansek the other WTA match in the offing. Some of the leading players who will have to return tomorrow include Danielle Collins, Grigor Dimitrov, Marketa Vondrousova, Marta Kostyuk, Ben Shelton facing Kei Nishikori.
As well as Jelena Ostapenko, Amanda Anisimova and Leylah Fernandez in a slate that will already likely feature Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina. Court placing will be an interesting one tomorrow when it comes to getting matches in with doubles also postponed constantly in recent days. This has put the tournament firmly on the back foot and there will be much clamour in order to get everything done. But the weather forecast is looking brighter for Thursday in a silver lining.
"Due to the poor weather conditions, all remaining matches scheduled to take place today on Simonne-Mathieu Court and the outside courts have been cancelled," the FFT said in a statement.
