Ivan Ljubicic: "We will see Roger Federer back in action next year. I still don't know exactly when, but he is doing rehab: he is recovering little by little, there is no rush." 🤩 (Via @SkySport)
The news comes as a devastating one for every tennis fan in Australia especially if they are a Roger Federer fan. News from Federer's camp over the past few weeks were very optimistic and several well-connected persons in the tennis world believed the Swiss ace would play in Melbourne. Those rumors have now been squashed by his coach Ivan Ljubicic who said:
"Roger Federer is very unlikely to play the Australian Open. He is 40 and doesn't recover as fast as before. But he wants to compete again and won't retire all of a sudden."
It's not great news for any Federer fan but it's more in line with what has been official news several months ago. Federer was not slated to return before the midpoint of the 2022 season and while that might have been pessimistic returning at the Australian Open would have been quite miraculous for a player that wore crutches not long ago.
Ljubicic further said:
"We will see Roger Federer back in action next year. I still don't know exactly when, but he is doing rehab: he is recovering little by little, there is no rush."
