Sebastian Korda played Carlos Alcaraz for the first time yesterday and the American was overmatched from the start.
Korda had good moments in the match almost breaking Alcaraz at the start of the first set which could have altered the final outcome but the Spaniard hung in there. After that, his play got better over time and he was able to win the match and the trophy. After the match, Korda praised his opponent saying:
“Carlos played incredibly well. He's definitely playing a lot better than his [FedEx ATP] Ranking and he won't be in that spot for long.”
Korda lamented his missed chances at the start of the first set after the match saying:
“I had some chances in the first set, [but] didn't take them, and
that's just kind of how the match went. He was just
playing some really good tennis, clutch on the Deuce points."
He further said:
“But he was just playing incredibly well in the tight moments,
especially in the tie-break. I had a lot of chances, some of the things
didn't go my way, break points in the first [set], an easy volley. But
it was still a great match from him and sometimes there's nothing I
could really do."
He finished off with an overall assestment of his week in Milan saying:
“Overall, I'm still very happy. I had a great week, I had a great season and unfortunately it didn't happen today, but [I will] go back to work and try to improve.”
