Karolina Pliskova trailed 0-6 2-4 against
Barbora Krejcikova before coming back sensationally to win 0-6 6-4 6-4.
This match was a high-stakes match for both players as the players both needed a victory in order to stay in the hunt for the WTA semifinals. Early on it was all Krejcikova who was playing sensational tennis, especially from the baseline. Pliskova lost her serve in the first game of the match and from there everything went south.
Krejcikova kept on attacking and the confidence of Pliskova completely eroded during the course of the first set. The lead snowballed to a bagel with Krejcikova looking very sharp. Early on in the 2nd set Pliskova stabilized a bit but Krejcikova was still able to go ahead. She had a 4-2 lead when the match completely turned upside down.
Krejcikova started playing erratically going for shots too confidently. She committed a lot of mistakes in a short span and the 4-2 lead became a 4-4 scoreline. Pliskova saw a chance there and started playing better herself eventually pulling out the set 6-4. The 3rd set was the best of the day with both playing rather well.
Krejcikova had a huge chance to secure a lead late in the set at 4-4 but failed to convert several break points. In the next game, she had to save break points and while she did two the 3rd one proved decisive. A huge comeback win for Pliskova who remains in the hunt for the semifinals.
