A year after not having any spectators due to the covid pandemic, the
US Open has announced that it will allow 100% fan capacity during the entire two weeks of the event this summer.
Scheduled to be held from August 30- September 12 2021 at Flushing Meadows in New York, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that all tickets for courts and ground passes will go on sale in July.
The USTA's decision to return to its usual number of people is in accordance with state guidelines, as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said many of the state's remaining social distancing rules would be lifted because 70% of adults have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
The US Open will be the first Grand Slam to have full fan attendance since the 2020
Australian Open, as every Major since then has had zero or limited fan attendance due to pandemic restrictions.
The recently concluded
French Open allowed 5,000 spectators into the grounds each day, with capacity increasing to about 13,000 by the end of the tournament. Furthermore, the
Wimbledon organizers announced this week that Centre Court would be filled at 50% capacity when Wimbledon starts on June 28, with that rising to 100% by the women’s and men’s singles finals on the closing weekend of July 10-11.
