Last summer saw Just Stop Oil attempt to protest at Wimbledon, but this time one spectator tried and momentarily succeeded in getting the
Alexander Zverev v
Cameron Norrie clash on Margaret Court Arena halted on Monday morning.
Zverev and Norrie who are currently in a final set were in a third set and Norrie trailed Zverev 4-1 when a woman in the west end of the court near the German came down the stairs and started throwing papers on the court. These read 'Free Palestine' and discussed 'war crimes and genocide' in a reference to the Israel-Hamas war and were thrown onto the playing surface.
The woman was ejected as Channel 9, a local broadcaster cut away from the court. Ball people quickly picked up the flyers and the match was continued. It also comes only twelve months after
Australian Open organisers had to remove spectators with Russian flags and singing Putin songs in the latest tennis protest in Melbourne.
