Alex Molcan came back from the brink in his match against Sebastien Ofner at the Austrian Open, in what has been dubbed the 'craziest' match of his career.
Things were not looking good for the Slovak No. 1 in his round-of-16 match against fourth seed Ofner at the ATP 250 event in Kitzbühel. The Austrian was sitting at match point after two sets, with an impressive lead of 6-4, 5-0.
As No. 52 in the ATP singles rankings, Ofner was the clear favorite to win the match against Molcan, who is currently positioned at No. 81. Indeed, as the second set drew toward its end, the commentators declared that Molcan already had 'one foot in the locker room.'

'One of the craziest comeback stories'

However, Molcan was not ready to give up, and he fought his way back from match point to win seven games in a row. This meant that the players now had one set each, thus leveling the scores going forward.
The 25-year-old then went on to defy the odds entirely by winning a tiebreak in the final set and taking the victory 4-6, 7-5, 7-6.
The crowd went wild at the unbelievable win, and fans on social media were just as amazed by the player's incredible feat. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one user wrote:
"One of the craziest chokes/comebacks (depends on point of view) in tennis history." Meanwhile, another added:
"That's the great part about tennis, no clock. You can be up 6-4 5-0 and win in one minute or lose in two hours."
The Slovak had previously defeated Frenchman Luca Van Assche in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. He will now be preparing to face 22-year-old Argentine player Sebastián Báez, who is over 40 places above Molcan, being ranked at No. 40.
The youngster also has two ATP titles to his name so it will be a challenge for Molcan to defeat him, but evidently anything is possible.
