The dreams of French qualifier,
Terence Atmane were shattered on his Grand Slam debut as he was forced to quit in floods of tears against
Daniil Medvedev at the 2024
Australian Open.
Atmane lost 7-5, 2-6, 4-6, 0-1 (walkover) having an utter dream start against the third seed taking the opening set. But as the match wore on, he wasn't just facing Medvedev. He was facing the crippling Australian Open heat.
He was forced to quit going into the final set of the match as he walked to the net slumped as Medvedev took the win and survived a scare in the end. Atmane was then sat down in tears with his head down as Medvedev took in the applause of the crowd.
At times during his first main draw at a Grand Slam, he was playing the match of his life. But in the end, he was struggling to move and found himself having to play underarm serve as well as smashing his racquet in frustration before it got too much. From a dream to a nightmare for the Frenchman who will lament an opportunity passing him by.
