Austrian tennis star
Dominic Thiem
hilariously embarrassed Russia’s
Andrey Rublev after singing Happy Birthday at the Vienna Open event.
In a video that appeared on social
media platform X — previously known as Twitter—Thiem could be seen singing on
Friday happy birthday with the crowd leaving Rublev blushing.
The 30-year-old did not have a great
outing in the ongoing European Open where he was knocked out of the competition
after losing to Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
The result was another
disappointing one for Thiem as he also lost in the round of 16 during the ATP
event at Bratislava where he was knocked out by Canada’s Gabriel Diallo with a score
of 6-1, 4-6, 7-6.
Before that, the Wiener Neustadt-born
appeared in the main round of all the four Grand Slams but failed to qualify
for the third round or beyond in any of the competitions.
He was knocked out from the first
round of the Australian Open after losing to Rublev with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Similarly, in the French Open, he
was knocked out after losing to Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in the first round in
a five-set thriller with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 6-7, 4-6, 6-2.
At Wimbledon, Thiem lost to Greece’s
tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 128 in another five-set thriller
with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6.
In the US Open, the former world
number three had to retire in the round of 64 tie against Ben Shelton.
