Bernard Tomic is never far from controversy and even when it looks like he will clean up his act, he emerges with another incident. This time at a Challenger in Santo Domingo, he was thrown out of the stands for heckling a previous opponent.
Tomic has been competing on the Challenger Tour in recent years to regain his confidence and ranking. He played in the Dominican Republic and defeated eighth seed Nick Hardt 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Jay Clarke 7-6, 6-3 before losing to lucky loser Andres Andrade in the Quarter-Finals 6-2, 6-2.
Tomic refused to shake hands with Andrade after the contest and it seems like his frustration boiled over. He returned to the venue for his final against Damir Dzumhur on Sunday August 18 and was seen bizarrely moving from corner to corner in order to heckle Andrade. His repeated interventions didn't go unnoticed though as he is seen arguing with a tournament official before being asked to leave the venue during the second set.
For a former World No.17 to do such a gesture is interesting to say the least. The crowd cheered the decision of the official and were jeering Tomic. But it seemed to work as Dzumhur albeit a better player on paper sealed the win 6-4, 6-4.
